Professional development is an annual obligation of every advocate under the Procedure for Professional Development of Advocates of Ukraine. These certificates confirm that the advocate’s status is valid and maintained without interruption. The QR code, the vice-rector’s signature and the signature of the head of the Qualification and Disciplinary Commission are hidden in the images; the numbers of the certificate of the right to practise and of the professional development certificates, the dates and the details of the decision are left visible for verification.

Attorney-client privilege (Art. 22 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Bar and Practice of Law”), the ban on questioning defence counsel as a witness (Art. 23 of the same Law, Part 2 of Art. 65 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine) and the advocate’s request with a five-day response period (Art. 24) apply only to an advocate holding a certificate.
